I read this story on CNN yesterday about an English professor’s journey from fat to fit! Muata Kamdibe’s experience goes to show you that if he can lose weight by himself, most anyone should be able to do the same! Dr. Kamdibe gained part of his weight the same way I did – in school. If he was like me… the stress of trying to keep his grades up while juggling other areas of life, led to letting loose with the eating (the one area of life we most often CAN control). The CNN article is here. Here is the video of the interview. Oops… I just noticed that the video has been removed. His story is interesting though – please review the video in the CNN article above.
Muata created a blog here, that I had added to my blog roll. While I have just taken a cursory look at the site, it seems to have the motivational site as well as a training site here. One of the things that has been successful for Professor Kamdibe was walking. In the CNN article he reportably walked an hour a day.
I think walking is an ideal exercises because it is inherently low-impacting one's joints. Also, the legs have the largest muscle group so working out with your legs burn lots of calories as well as have other positive effects on the body. If you have injuries - walking can mitigate further risk (from high-impacting forms of exercise) so you can keep up the exercise portion of your total fitness program.
I really liked Muata's views on diets... he stated that calories count and linked to a site to help figure out what you really need in a day as well as how many calories you need when dieting here. I'll add this link to my blog roll too as it seems very informative. Please visit Muata Kamdibe's blogs as they really are very informative and motivational!
