Santee Lakes Fun and Workout!

I have found one of the best places to get a little fun and exercise near my Santee home – Santee Lakes! I’ve often ignored the lakes even though twice in recent history I have lived near the lakes. I heard the Summer movies and events and could not figure out what would be so fun about hanging out by the lakes.

Well since I have moved back to Santee a few months ago I and I have bought a mountain bike for exercise; I have taken a ride around the park and found lots of fun things to do! The other day it was nearing dark but as I live a half-mile from the part – I rode around the 3 1/2 mile loop around the lakes. Boy let me tell you about relaxing and even found a path right next to the lake on the far side. Here is a picture from the lakes webpage.

A fun workout and activities

As I was riding around the lakes I saw the nearby hills that I have been mountain biking and as well as some riders in the sage. I liked the relaxed change of pace while I was watching the fishermen catching dinner. According to the website – one does not need a fishing license but rather a permit to fish at Santee Lakes.

I also saw canoes and paddle boats for rent. As I was checking out the watercraft rentals I saw an outside BBQ patio selling hamburgers and hotdogs. This all had the summertime small town festival feel to it as there were plenty of vactationeers camping in the RV grounds.

I did not have to watch traffic as I would traversing the surface streets throughout Santee but could concentrate on getting mild workout. As one of a well planned fitness regimen allows for high and medium intensity workouts – I will start including some of my workouts at Santee Lakes!

So far this year I have been good about working out more often that not and increasing my intake of veggies (Rabbit food). I am noticing an lowering of my stress level and I think the exercise is a contributing factor. I have not dreaded any workouts or had to give myself a pep talk to get started as I did last year at times. So far it seems like the most natural thing in the world to do some bag work, go for a bike ride, go jogging or walking the dogs much as eating three to four helpings of fruit and veggies!

I am thinking about buying a fishing pole as I have been reading that some record trout have been caught by something called powerbait! I hope soon to have some fishing tales to tell in addition to some sage fitness advice.

  • Hey John!

Finding somewhere pleasant to do your exercises is extremely helpful.

If you’re cycling, just make sure you’re pushing yourself hard enough to get your heartrate going :)

    Howdy Melanie,

Good advice! I try to mix up my workouts and was running out of day light I think so I took the easy, close, pleasant route near the home.

Most of my workouts are in the aerobic range though as I am trying to keep my blood pressure in check while I am losing the fat.

I took a look at your website and loved it. I added a link.

    Take care down under :)
