I knew today was not going to be a great day for my diet (or lack of one lately) because I did not feel like making my lunch this morning. Instead I packed my credit card and headed off to Burger King for lunch. Before I got there I was trying to talk myself out of the “I’m eating fast food anyway – so go ahead and eat!” logic and I decided to not “King Size” everything like I would usually do.
As I pulled in to the drive through I noticed that “King Size” was not an option. The new sizes were:
- small sized
- medium sized
- large sized
I thought cool! I could trim a few calories but instead of going for the hamburger that might have been a reasonable lunch, I ordered my favorite! The BK Fish meal. I thought (ok not really much thinking) that because I was ordering the small sized meal – I would trim the calories to an acceptable level and not totally blow my calories for the day out of the water!
Here is what I ended up with by ording the BK Fish meal – small sized: 1010 calories, and 45 grams of fat! That is about 2/3 of my diet calories or about half of what I normally need to eat to maintain a day!!!
Luckily I did not decided to just go for the large size BK Fish meal because that would have been a whopping 1430 calories and 60 grams of fat. Here is Burger Kings nutrition guide. As you can see if I had the hamburger meal – small sized, I would have only consumed 620 calories and 25 grams of fat.
I am going to have to start making better choices! As you can see had I went for the small sized hamburger meal I would have eaten about 1/3 of my daily calorie needs on a diet! I would not have eaten an extra 400 calories and 20 grams of fat. Sure it would have still been fast food but it would not have totally blown my diet for the day.
So as you can see I too have my up and down days… oh well tomorrow is a new day and I am making a deal with myself – If I end up eating out, I will eat reasonably. It is far easier to consume less calories than one needs than to try and workout harder to burn the excess calories off. Enough of this rant – I’m human and will do better tomorrow. Hope all is well on your diet and/or exercise plan.

Wow 1010 calories in one meal. I use to go to Burger King for all three meals I was probably eating 4 or 5 thousand calories a day (yikes!). Well great post, I will be sure to small size my meals when I eat fast food!
