In this day and age where low-fat diets are starting to lose their allure as well as claims that other diets are better, I am going from a moderate-fat diet to my low-fat diet! The main reasons for this change of tactics is the results of my physical at Kaiser as well as only treading water for the past month on my weight loss! I’ll address both issues in this post but first I would like point out a Time article here, that basically stating that low-fat diets still have validity even though many people are not sticking with the diet (I’d say most diets have this problem!). Here is a funny clip of a woman trying to be alluring.
Have you ever felt like the woman in this video? I know I have when I was trying to impress someone. Anyway as readers of this website know, I have been losing weight with a moderate-fat diet. My reasoning was I wanted to eat the way I was going to eat for life as opposed to a transitory diet that I could not keep up with for life!
What I have found out is that a 50 year-old man’s metabolism does not respond to exercise and diet as easily as a 25 or 35 year-old’s metabolism does. Meaning that when I was strictly watching everything in my moderate-fat diet, I was losing weight slowly but just as soon as I popped off the diet for a day or so, it was hard to recover!
I had a physical done at Kaiser over the last few weeks. It was a two part deal where I had blood taken on the first visit and the actual exam on the second visit. I discovered that I now have high cholesterol, and borderline high-blood pressure. I was not too surprised at the results but it underlined my need to lose weight sooner rather than later.
My weight has been in the 239 to 242 range for the last month so staying on the moderate fat diet is no longer an option. I have transitioned to my low-fat diet plan that is on this website, so I can rapidly (a couple of pounds of fat a week) lose fat! I will continue to workout four to five times a week.
The aerobic exercise will have the dual benefit of burning fat as well as having cardio-pulmonary benefits so my cholesterol & blood pressure will lower. Eating low-fat will have the easiest affect on fat loss because fat has more calories than carbohydrates or proteins. ietary fat also stores easily on my spare tire so by just not eating as much (fat) I will start rapidly losing the weight (fat).
Well hang in there everyone and check back to see my progress with the low-fat diet!
